NVIDIA RTX 4090D Launches on 28th December in China

Expreview reports that the China-exclusive RTX 4090D will launch, not in 2024, but later this month on the 28th of December. Ever since the RTX 4090 has been banned in China, citing US concerns, GPU prices in the region have shot through the roof.

To somewhat alleviate the average Chinese consumer, NVIDIA has been eying on launching a nerfed RTX 4090, that barely complies with the US guidelines, termed the ‘RTX 4090D’.

RTX 4090D Launch Date Confirmed

The RTX 4090D features fewer cores (AD102-250), a lower TDP than the base RTX 4090, and apparently cannot be overclocked. All of these features unite to a TOPS level below 4800, which aligns with US recommendations. Moreover, we expect 3 different AI GPUs as well for China as the RTX 4090 was not the sole affectee of the US sanctions.

Expreview asserts that the RTX 4090D will launch on the 28th of December this month. That is within 10 days from now, and quite a surprise since NVIDIA could’ve made bank, had it waited for the Chinese New Year.

In terms of specifications, the RTX 4090D will be roughly 10-15% slower than the RTX 4090. This should make it competitive against the RTX 4080 Super, though the former will likely win by a small margin. In light of this, we should expect the RTX 40 Super refresh to hit both the global and the Chinese markets as well.

Upcoming GPUs

Alongside the RTX 4090D, we expect the SUPER series next month with the RTX 3050 6GB sometime during the first quarter. It is important to note that the RTX 4090D may cost the same as the RTX 4090, at $1599.

  • RTX 4090D Launch Date: 28th December, 2023
  • RTX 4070 SUPER Launch Date: 17th January, 2024
  • RTX 4070 Ti SUPER Launch Date: 24th January, 2024
  • RTX 4080 SUPER Launch Date: 31st January, 2024

The next few months will be full of new offerings and surprises from NVIDIA. On the contrary, team red has no plans for an RDNA3 refresh, so we’ll have to be patient for a while. Likewise, we have not heard much regarding Battlemage from Intel.
