Google Pixel Phones are Apparently Failing to Connect to Emergency Services

The reason Google Pixel has become the pioneer in the Android smartphone space is not due to its hardware or aesthetics, but rather the software experience it brings to the table. The fact that every software has bugs isn’t new, but some features are just MEANT to work, regardless of the factors affecting them.

One of these features is surely having your calls connect to emergency services when you need them. For any company out there, there shouldn’t be an excuse for this not to work. However, it seems like the dynamics are different for all the Pixels out there.

Almost two years ago, the first reports of Google phones being unable to connect to emergency services surfaced online, and since then, many more people have spoken up. The important thing to understand here is that no one dials 911 happily while lounging on their couch, but rather does so only in an emergency situation.

Initially, Google blamed the Microsoft Teams app for this issue, but people who didn’t have it installed also faced the same problem. Regardless of that, Microsoft released an update for Teams and stated that the issue seemed to primarily affect users running Android 10 and above.

Over the past year, there have been numerous reports, mostly targeting the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. However, earlier today, we encountered another report of a Pixel failing to connect to emergency services, and this time, it was a serious matter!

A man attempted to dial 911 when his infant daughter was allegedly choking on something, but fortunately, she managed to clear her airway without any blockage. The concerning aspect here is how this situation could potentially be a life-saving feature, but if such an incident occurs, one should not anticipate the user returning to the same brand again. Not to mention the potential repercussions on social media.

That’s why it’s an opportune moment for Google to consider introducing satellite connectivity in its upcoming phones. Having a backup in place is crucial in case such an eventuality arises in the future.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
