Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the ninth-generation games. They are also, simultaneously, the second/third truly open-world Pokémon games in the history of the franchise. Like any other new mainline Pokémon game, Scarlet and Violet introduced a whole slew of new Pokémon with creative and intriguing designs.
Mabosstiff is one Pokémon that you’ll encounter and are bound to notice, thanks to its uncanny resemblance to a dog. If you find yourself cornered against a Mabosstiff frequently, you’ll need to learn how to counter it effectively.

Who is Mabosstiff?
Mabosstiff is a new Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet. By looks alone, it is very similar to a pug without a neck. It is a Dark type Pokémon with pretty average stats; a total of 505, of wich the highest is Attack (120) and the lowest being Sp. Atk (65). It has a solid Defense (90) and decent HP (80) Speed (85). Its Sp. Def, like its Sp. Atk is low (70).
Where to Find Mabosstiff?
Mabosstiff is not rare, but also not common. It can be found in the following areas:
- West Province Area Three
- North Province Area Two
- 5 and 6 Star Tera-Raid Battles
- Glaseado Mountain
- Casseroya Lake
Alternatively, you may also encounter Maschiff. Maschiff is the unevolved form of Mabosstiff. It posesses inferior stats when compared to its evolved form, but is a Dark-type hence the same weaknesses are applicable. Mabosstiff is also Arven‘s main Pokémon and one of the toughest Pokémon you’ll have to face in the game, which is probably why you’re here reading this now.
Mabosstiff’s Weaknesses
Being a pure Dark type, Mabosstiff has 3 weaknesses:
- Bug
- Fairy
- Fighting
If you’re looking to handle Mabosstiff quickly and effectively, make sure that any one of your Pokémon has learnt these types of moves or, even better, you have one of one of these types of Pokémon in your party.

- Ghost
Additionally, being a pure Dark type, Mabosstiff is completely immune to Psychic type moves, so make sure you avoid using a Psychic type Pokémon or moves against it.
Conclusion
Mabosstiff is a pretty tough opponent, thanks to its beefy defense, but like any other Pokémon, it is powerless against its weaknesses. Use a Fairy type, as Fairy types tend to have more Special-natured attacks than the normal physical attacks commonly used by Bug and Fighting Pokémon.
