How to Remove Google Accounts From Any Computer

Many browsers such as Chrome, Opera, and Brave use Google accounts to manage and control themselves. Now, while adding a single or multiple Google accounts is very easy in these, removing just one is a bit tricky. In this article, we will look at how you can completely remove a single or multiple Google accounts from any browser.

Removing One or Multiple Google Accounts

Note that you will be logged out of all accounts during this process, so make sure you know your Google accounts’ passwords or have recovery options set up.

  1. Launch your browser and type in google.com in the search bar. This will open the Google homepage.
  2. Click on the circular profile icon in the top-right corner next to Google Apps icon.

  3. This will reveal a list of logged in accounts, and at the bottom will be the option of “Sign out of all accounts.” Click on that.

  4. You will now be redirected to a new page that will inform you that data syncing has been stopped. Click on the Continue option.

    This will only show up in Google Chrome, other browsers will simply redirect you to a page showing the list of logged out Google Accounts showin in Step 6.
  5. This will take you back to the homepage. Now click on the Sign in option, next to the Google Apps option.

  6. Here you will see the list of the accounts you just signed out from. In the end there will be an option of Remove an account, select this option.

  7. When you select this option, remove icons will appear next to these accounts. Click this icon next to the account you want to remove. In the menu box that opens, click on Yes, Remove. 
  8. This will remove the Google account from the browser, and you will be sent back to the page in Step 6. Now if you want to remove another account, repeat step 7.

Clear Browsing Data

After removing one or multiple accounts you can also clear your browser data if you want to completely wipe any traces of your Google Account from the computer. The following steps are according to Google Chrome, however, other browsers will generally follow the same procedure.

This will remove all data that your browser has saved so far. Make sure you proceed knowing that this process isn’t reversible.
  1. Launch Chrome and click on the three-dots icon at the top right of the screen and in the menu box that opens click on Settings.
  2. Once settings load up look for the Privacy and Security option on the left side of the screen.

  3. In privacy and security, click on Clear Browsing Data and shift to the Advanced heading
  4. Select All Time in the dropdown box of Time Range. Make sure to select all the options underneath the heading.
  5. Click on Clear data and this will data all the data from your browser, completely removing the account from the browser.

Disabling Auto Logins

Chrome also adds Google Accounts to your browser which you log in to on sites like Gmail. To stop this automatic process from taking place follow these steps:

  1. Launch Chrome and click on the three dots icon at the top right of the screen and in the menu box that opens click on Settings.
  2. Under the You and Google heading under settings, click on Sync and Google services.

  3. Under the Other Google services section, toggle off the Allow Chrome Sign-in option.
  4. You will receive a prompt to confirm this action, confirm it by clicking on Turn off.

  5. Now you can freely use any Google Account to log in to a website without it being added to chrome. 

Remove Chrome Profile

Chrome has a feature that allows you to set up multiple different profiles on your browser. These are very useful to separate your work and personal profile or if multiple people share a single device. Data from one profile is not automatically transferred to other profiles and they have separate browsing history, saved passwords etc. If you want to delete a Chrome profile from the browser, here are the steps:

  1. Open chrome on your PC and click on your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. Click on the gear shaped icon showed in the image below.
  3. This will reveal all the chrome profiles added on that browser.
  4. Click the three dots on the profile you want to remove and select Delete.

  5. Now in the prompt that pops up you will be asked to confirm the action and the number of bookmarks and passwords deleted will be displayed. If you are sure you want to delete the profile, click on Delete.

Currently, it is not possible to remove a single Google account if you have other accounts logged in as well. You will first need to sign out of all accounts and then remove the desired account from the list of signed in accounts.

When you delete a chrome profile all of the data in that profile including logged in Google accounts are removed from your browser. In case you had the same Google account logged into a separate chrome profile, it will remain logged in there.
