Xiaomi 14 Pro Runs Fortnite at 60FPS at Ultra Settings with Thermals Maxing Out at 41°C
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, announced earlier this month brings a significant generational improvement for Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets. It is positioned to be one of the best-performing gaming chipsets currently available, giving Apple’s A17 Pro a run for its money. Despite being fabricated on a generation-old manufacturing process, the 8 Gen 3 delivers impressive gaming performance.
YouTuber TechDroider recently tested the Xiaomi 14 Pro, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, to evaluate its gaming performance, and the results turned out to be quite impressive.
On Fortnite, the Adreno 750 GPU consistently maintained 60FPS at Ultra settings, a feat that previous-generation flagships struggled to achieve. Moreover, the video showcased minimal stuttering, partially due to Xiaomi’s impressive thermal management system.
Despite maxing out at 41°C during an this gaming session, the phone’s thermal management system sustains the performance and FPS quite effectively. This is important because Apple’s A17 Pro, which, despite being a generation newer in terms of fabrication process, suffers from poor thermal management in the 15 Pros, leading to consistent performance throttling in graphically intensive scenarios, even when the phone has ample headroom.
We saw it struggle with games like Genshin Impact, struggling to maintain a playable 30FPS and even crashing out in certain scenarios. With newer iOS updates, Apple has brought forth plenty of performance improvements, with considerably lower peak temperatures.
As for getting the most out of Qualcomm’s Gen 3 chipsets, that’s better left to dedicated gaming phones. The RedMagic 9 and the ROG Phone 8 Ultimate, both slated to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and relatively better cooling solutions, will truly showcase the gaming prowess of the 8 Gen 3. Nevertheless, it’s also impressive to witness such high-level gaming capabilities on commercial smartphones, like the Xiaomi 14 Pro as well.
