Xbox Series X Mid-Gen Refresh With A New Design & Controller Leaked
Microsoft is preparing to introduce a redesigned Xbox Series X console and controller in 2024, as revealed by leaked documents from the ongoing FTC v. Microsoft case.
The updated Xbox Series X, codenamed Brooklin, will sport a cylindrical design (looks just like the current Series X but with rounded corners), marking a departure from the current model. It will also abandon the disc drive in favor of a digital-only approach as nowadays only enthusiasts prefer physical discs over digital copies.
The documents indicate several notable improvements, including a storage capacity increase from 1TB to 2TB, a front USB-C port with power delivery, and an updated controller for a more immersive gaming experience.
Inside the redesigned Xbox Series X, Microsoft is adding Wi-Fi 6E support and a Bluetooth 5.2 radio while reducing the die size to 6nm for improved efficiency. The power supply unit (PSU) will also be reduced by 15 percent to maintain a competitive launch price of $499.
The new controller, codenamed Sebille, will be officially announced later in the year. It boasts wireless enhancements and modular thumbsticks, featuring a two-tone white and black design. The controller will include gyro support, cloud connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, and an updated Xbox Wireless 2 connection.
It will also offer precision haptic feedback and haptic speakers, along with quieter buttons and thumbsticks, a rechargeable and swappable battery, modular thumbsticks, and a wake-up feature by lifting it.
The leaked documents outline Microsoft’s roadmap, which includes a refreshed Xbox Series S with 1TB of storage. This new version, set for 2024, will feature Wi-Fi 6E support, Bluetooth 5.2, and the updated Xbox controller.
