E3 is right around the corner, and the gaming community is ready for some juicy announcements. With the release of Borderlands 3 only a few months away, it looks like that the second game in the series is receiving a free DLC. Nearly seven years after the game’s launch, Borderlands 2 Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary DLC may be releasing at E3.

While Gearbox has yet to make an official announcement, a leak from Steam reveals almost all there is to know about the DLC. The DLC’s Steam listing went live earlier today, but was quickly taken down once the news spread. However, a speedy ResetEra member was able to grab screenshots and compiled them neatly alongside the item’s description.
Borderlands 3 is set sometime after the events of Borderlands 2, but no relevant explanation was shared. From the looks of things, the upcoming Borderlands 2 DLC supposedly bridges the gap between the two games.
The description of Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary is as follows:
“Return to the award winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault’s map has been stolen and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet.”
In addition to the new quests, the upcoming DLC raises the maximum level cap to 80. Furthermore, newcomers, or veterans who want to skip the early stages, can dive right into the action by starting out at level 30.
Last month’s Borderlands 3 gameplay panel revealed a lot about its premise. The land-based hub has been transformed into a spaceship hub named Sanctuary 3. The upcoming Borderlands 2 DLC will likely explain how the transition took place. We’ll know for sure once the new DLC is revealed at E3 next week.
