Starfield Hits 2 Million Players in Early Access, Despite Piracy and Performance Issues

Starfield, Bethesda’s most-awaited interplanetary RPG finally launches today. After six days in early access, the game is starting to rack up some pretty impressive numbers, although player reviews about the gameplay are a mixed bag.

To boost it’s sales, Xbox had announced that Starfield would be available on Game Pass on Day 1, but it seems as if a lot of people are just eager to try out the game. It’s been reported that over 2 million players worldwide have already purchased the Premium version to gain early access.

Even in pre-release, Starfield’s sales had been “reaching for the stars,” with a million copies sold on both Steam and Xbox, despite a bit of criticism regarding its performance on PC. The game has already claimed the top spot on Steam’s top-seller list, even though it got cracked before launch and was basically free for anyone who wanted it.

Keep in mind that Starfield doesn’t come cheap, and it’ll cost you around €100 on Steam and €110 on the Xbox Store. However, if you’re playing via Game Pass, there is an option to upgrade to the Premium version without buying the base game for a respectable €35.

Not only that, but Xbox has also been benefitting from Starfield via console sales. It was recently reported that Xbox Series X’s sales almost rose by 1000% on Amazon, catapulting it from a sales rank of 370 to 32 and making it the fifth most popular gaming item on the platform.

With the official release, the game will surely attract a lot more players, which means that Starfield will undoubtedly be one of the biggest game launches of recent times, despite facing launch issues like development deadlines, piracy, and most of all, stiff competition from titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, which, interestingly, also launched (Aug 3) the same week as Starfield.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
