Star Wars: Outlaws’ Narrative Director Reveals Game Insights

In a recent interview with Kotaku, Navid Khavari, the narrative director of the highly anticipated game Star Wars: Outlaws, unveiled intriguing insights into the game’s open-world exploration and captivating narrative. Developed by Massive Entertainment, known for their work on Ubisoft’s The Division series and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars: Outlaws is expected to be an immersive experience set in the Star Wars universe.

The revelation came during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where it was disclosed that the notorious Jabba the Hutt would play a pivotal role in the game, allowing players to undertake missions and even contemplate betraying the crime lord. Despite being an expansive open-world game, creative director Julian Gerighty assured fans that Star Wars: Outlaws would be a “manageable” experience, steering clear of the trend of excessively lengthy RPGs.

In the recent interview, Khavari delved into the core gameplay loop, outlining three distinct types of experiences focused on exploration. Players can expect bustling cities teeming with activity, vast and mysterious open environments, and the vastness of space—all seamlessly interconnected for a fluid gaming experience.

Khavari emphasized the importance of providing a seamless transition between different vehicles, enabling players to embody the role of an “intergalactic tourist” traveling around iconic planets. The game aims to reward curiosity, allowing players to explore off-the-beaten paths and encounter unexpected surprises.

The narrative director also shed light on the factions and characters that will challenge the main character, Kay Vess, throughout her journey. Players will be able to manage Kay’s reputation with various syndicates, influencing the jobs offered and impacting the overarching story based on their interactions.

Set in the tumultuous period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the game’s backdrop adds depth to the story. With the rebels on the back foot and civil unrest distracting from Imperial rule, a vacuum emerges, creating an opportune moment for the underworld to rise to power.

While initial reports hinted at an early release in the coming year, new information from Ubisoft suggests a later release in 2024. However, Star Wars enthusiasts can anticipate other exciting releases, such as the upcoming Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, scheduled for February 24 next year.

The delay may test fans’ patience, but the promise of an immersive and well-crafted Star Wars experience in Star Wars: Outlaws is undoubtedly worth the wait. What are your thoughts about this news? Let us know in the comments section below.
