Qualcomm Rumored to Launch Two New Midrange SoCs with Performance Rivaling Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Qualcomm is expected to release two new midrange SoCs before the first half of this year, one of which is possibly the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. There have been many rumors lately pointing towards the fact that the two chipsets (SM7675 & SM8635) will sport the same hardware but will come in different frequencies.

Insider Digital Chat Station has stated that the chipset, with model number SM8635, will be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process node and will use the Cortex-X4 large core, thus bumping up the performance to an equivalent AnTuTu score of around 1.7 million points.

For a bit of context, these chips are said to perform better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, primarily due to the newer architecture despite being comparatively under-clocked. The big-core is clocked in at 2.9GHz, while there is no information on the mid-cores. It is said that the chipset will feature a combination of additional A720 and A520 cores in the 1+5+2 core configuration.

The GPU on SM8635 is said to be the Adreno 735, which, according to DCS, is expected to clock in really high with speeds reaching upwards of 900MHz. When comparing this to 2022’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the CPU is 30% more powerful and 20% more efficient.

The other chip, SM7675, also known to be the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, will come with a relatively less powerful Adreno 732 GPU, the specifics of which are unknown right now. Qualcomm has kept the details for both the SoCs under wraps, but we do know that it is codenamed “Cliffe.”
