Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 GPU Clocks in at Whopping 1GHz, Beating Competitors in Efficiency Numbers

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 late in October, and while they showed plenty of what the CPU was capable of, the GPU, Adreno 750 didn’t get a lot of attention per se. However, the performance numbers are now in, and they show some pretty interesting results.

Adreno 750 on the For Galaxy Chips Will Be Clocked at a Whopping 1GHz, 28% More than the Adreno 740

Tipster Ice Universe revealed earlier today that the Gen 3 (For Galaxy) chip will be getting a GPU that clocks in at 1,000MHz, which when compared to the 719MHz on Gen 2’s Adreno 740, is a 28% performance boost.

But that’s not all. Apparently, the Adreno 750 is far more efficient than any other SoC currently available; and that’s counting the surreally hyped up A17 Pro.

Geekerwan (via Revegnus) recently posted the efficiency numbers for the Adreno 750, and the results are somewhat intriguing in the way that the 8 Gen 3 manages to surpass the 8 Gen 2, and the A17 Pro by quite a bit.

Apple’s 3nm A17 Pro Severely Lags Behind Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in Graphical Performance & Efficiency

The differences between the graphical capabilities for both the SoCs was already quite evident by earlier AnTuTu benchmark scores, but one of the things going for Apple was how the 3nm was supposed to be more efficient.

Keep in mind that these are all very early scores for the chip, and while the scores on the (For Galaxy) are bound to get better with the overclocked chip, the 8 Gen 3 will be competing against Exynos 2400’s Xclipse 940, which unofficially is reported to clock in at an even better 1.1GHz.

The Xclipse 940 was previously reported to surpass 1,700MHz, but due to architectural limitations with RDNA 2, the GPU will have to be severely underclocked, possibly putting it behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Keep in mind that Samsung will use both these SoCs in the upcoming S24 line.

Multiple sources have already citied that internal testing has revealed the 8 Gen 3 to be far superior than the A17 Pro in gaming performance; however, the For Galaxy chips would likely take this a notch further widening the gap between the two.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
