NVIDIA Rumored To Launch RTX 4080 Super With 20GB of Memory

It has been reported that NVIDIA is prepping to reinstate its GeForce RTX 40 series with a ‘SUPER‘ twist. Over the past few days, there have been plenty of rumors from reliable and trustworthy sources.

Most importantly, we have some confirmation regarding the confirmed SKUs, one of which is the RTX 4080 Super 20GB.

RTX 4080 Super 20GB In the Works

Twitter user hongxing2020 alleged that NVIDIA is working on 3 different Super refreshes for its Lovelace lineup. These include the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super, and the RTX 4070 Super. MEGAsizeGPU, reaffirmed these rumors by confirming the specs of the RTX 4070 Super and a G6 shrink of the current RTX 4070.

Focusing on today’s leak, Benchlife claims that the RTX 4080 Super will launch with 20GB of G6X memory. Do note that the leak does not mention ‘Super’ explicitly, thus we may be looking at another RTX 4080. However, we doubt they’ll go that route given NVIDIA’s infamous ‘Unlaunching‘ of the RTX 4080 12GB.

GPU NameCurrent SpecsRefresh Specs
RTX 4070 GDDR6GDDR6XGDDR6
RTX 4070 SuperAD104, 12GB, 192-bitAD103, 16GB, 256-bit
RTX 4070 Ti SuperPossibly Scrapped
RTX 4080 SuperAD103, 16GB, 256-bitAD102?, 20GB, 320-bit

Another important factor is that the 20GB of G6X memory will require a 320-bit memory bus. From what we’ve seen so far, NVIDIA is trying to address many of the community’s concerns related to smaller memory sizes, limited bandwidth etcetera.

The Super series, in tandem with the Ti lineup, can be extremely confusing. But the rule of thumb is that any GPU’s Super variant is somewhere between the base GPU and its Ti variant.

Release Date

The RTX 40 Super series is not mentioned in any of NVIDIA’s leaked lineups. Therefore, one can only guess the release date of these GPUs. We should not expect these Graphics Cards to hit the market before 2024.

Moreover, this is very early information, though backed up by multiple reliable sources. The pricing is also a major concern since NVIDIA feels no real pressure from its competitors to launch a Super series.
