NVIDIA Reveals the RTX 40 SUPER Lineup at CES: RTX 4080S for $999, RTX 4070 TiS for $799 & RTX 4070S for $599

After AMD’s session, NVIDIA has too revealed its upcoming products, including the much-anticipated RTX 40 Super refresh. From the looks of it, the SUPER refresh offers much more value than the base lineup. The icing on the top is that these GPUs will receive their own Founders Edition models, some of which have been already sent to reviewers.

RTX 40 SUPER: Better Performance, Lower Prices

As unbelievable as it sounds, and as much of a stereotype this generation has been, the RTX 40 Super does indeed put a lot of value on the table. So much so that you can snag an RTX 4070S for $599, delivering near RTX 4070 Ti levels of performance. To be fair, Ada Lovelace has been around for more than 1 year, with initial RTX 50 rumors on the horizon.

Anyhow, the RTX 40 Super refresh features 3 GPUs: RTX 4080S, RTX 4070 TiS and the RTX 4070S. The RTX 40 Super only focuses on the mid-ranged – high-end segment, which may come as a shock to budget gamers.

The RTX 40 Super series resorts to the 12VHPWR power connector, but that much was expected. You wouldn’t really bank on NVIDIA changing power connectors halfway through a generation.

RTX 4080 Super: 2x the Performance of an RTX 3080 Ti

The RTX 4080 Super is an enhanced version of the base RTX 4080, based on AD103-400 coming in at $200 cheaper. It features 10240 CUDA cores, 5% more than the RTX 4080. Again, we see 16GB of G6X memory which over a 256-bit interface nets us 736GB/s of effective bandwidth.

RTX 4080 Super Specifications | NVIDIA

NVIDIA has used faster 23Gbps memory dies, though only marginally faster since the RTX 4080 used 22.4Gbps modules.

RTX 4080 SuperAD103-4001024016GB736GB/s256-bit2.295GHz/2.55GHz320W$999

The base and boost clocks stand at 2.295GHz and 2.55GHz respectively, faster than the RTX 4080. The TGP remains unchanged at 320W. As for the pricing, well it’s no secret at this point but the RTX 4080 Super will cost $999, starting from the 31st of January.

RTX 4070 Ti Super: 2.5x the Performance of an RTX 3070 Ti

The RTX 4070 Ti Super, as daunting as that name sounds, is a Super version of an already Ti Graphics Card. The upgraded version offers 8448 CUDA cores, 10% more than the base variant. In terms of memory, we have 16GB of G6X memory, 4GB more than the RTX 4070 Ti. This memory increase required a wider bus width, which now stands at 256 bits instead of the original 192 bits.

RTX 4070 TI SuperAD103-275844816GB672GB/s256-bit2.34GHz/2.61GHz285W$799

As you’ve already guessed, this also improved the bandwidth, now at 672GB/s (21Gbps memory). The GPU features base clocks of 2.34GHz and 2.61GHz. The TGP for this card also is unaffected, as it sips 285W of power. The RTX 4070 Ti Super can be all yours for $799 starting from the 24th of January.

RTX 4070 Super: Faster than the RTX 3090

The RTX 4070 Super gets a huge bump of 20% more cores. Based on AD104-350, it comes with 7168 CUDA cores, and 12GB of G6X memory netting a bandwidth of 504GB/s over a 192-bit interface.

RTX 4070AD104-250/251-A1588812GB504GB/s192-bit1.92GHz/2.475GHz200W$599 (Now $549)
RTX 4070 SuperAD104-350716812GB504GB/s192-bit1.98GHz/2.475GHz220W$599

The power consumption (TGP) takes a toll, now 10% higher at 220W. The RTX 4070 Super will hit shelves on the 17th of January, at just $599, with the RTX 4070 dropping down to $549.

Performance

Against the RTX 4080, the RTX 4080 Super is a measely 3% faster, which lowers down to parity in CPU-bounded scenarios. However, the GPU does come in much cheaper, adding to its value. Likewise, the RTX 4080 Super eclipses its Ampere and Turing counterparts, with the lead extending exponentially with Frame Gen.

RTX 4080 Super Performance | NVIDIA

The RTX 4070 Ti Super leads the base RTX 4070 Ti by around 15%, a nice bump in performance. If we factor out Frame Gen, the lead against the RTX 3070 Ti is at 60%. What’s impressive is that it costs the same as the RTX 4070 Ti, at $799.

RTX 4070 Ti Super Performance | NVIDIA

Here’s the kicker, the RTX 4070 Super trades blows with an RTX 3090 in various titles. Seeing a 15% jump in performance lands it very close to an RTX 4070 Ti, almost within 5%. Importantly, the RTX 4070 Super does not replace the RTX 4070, rather the RTX 4070 has been shifted lower down the stack, now at $549.

Availability

The RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Super will arrive in Founders Edition flavors, while the RTX 4070 Ti Super will only have custom variants. On 17th January, we’ll see the RTX 4070 Super on shelves at $599, RTX 4070 Ti Super on the 24th at $799 and RTX 4080 Super on the 31st at $999.
