Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Potentially Be Ported Over to the Nintendo Switch

After the release of arguably the best video game this industry has ever seen – GTA V, Rockstar remained silent for another half-decade before releasing Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Initially, the game was well-received, and despite being overshadowed by the success of GTA, people quickly realized what a huge masterpiece the game was.

With each passing year, the game became more popular, and it currently sits at 55M+ sales worldwide cementing it’s place as one of the top 10 best-selling video games of all time. A successful release like this has to cash in every opportunity to grow. For GTA, it was the online multiplayer, but for RDR2, it wasn’t the case, unfortunately.

Now, it’s come to light that there is a small possibility that Red Dead Redemption 2 might make it’s way over to Nintendo Switch. After all, the game had been released on all major consoles at the time of it’s release, but till now, hasn’t been ported over to the next-gen consoles (PS5 & Xbox Series X/S).

Red Dead Redemption 2 Rated for Nintendo Switch in Brazil

Necro Felipe, head of Nintendo news site, Universo Nintendo recently shared an image, showing how RDR2 has been rated in Brazil for Nintendo Switch. Now, there is no concrete evidence of this happening – no official announcements of sorts has been made, but again, this is as much of an official proof as we can get.

Keep in mind that Red Dead Redemption 2 has not yet been ported over, mainly due to hardware constraints. However, one can make a case for how even games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Witcher 3, and Doom Eternal have also made their way over to the platform without issues.

Whatever the case may be, Nintendo is currently the only mainstream console with ~130M sales under it’s belt. Logically speaking, these numbers don’t represent the actual nature of this argument since it’s been almost seven years since it’s launch, but even combining PS4 and PS5’s sales altogether, we reach at ~160M sales, which is comparison makes Switch look significantly better at this point.

If RDR2’s ported over to the Switch, it’ll be the biggest (console) platform to support the game. However, with Rockstar neck deep into the development of GTA VI, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll go out of their way to optimize the game specifically for an aging console. But, at the same time, who knows – maybe the listing pointed towards Switch’s successor.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
