Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 GeekBench Scores Leaked Comes Close To Apple’s A11 Bionic

With every flagship phone having a Snapdragon 800 series chip, there’s a lot of pressure on Qualcomm to keep increasing performance every year. Snapdragon processors have always seen good gains with their releases every year, beating a lot of chip makers in the process.

We recently saw the Kirin 980 in action, and Huawei even demonstrated that it was indeed faster than the Snapdragon 845. Even the Mali GPU with the Kirin chip had a considerable performance jump from its previous iteration. This puts the upcoming Snapdragon 855 in a tough spot, because it has to show a good performance improvement over the Kirin 980, which will be one of it’s main competitors in the Android high-end processor space.

GeekBench scores of the Snapdragon 855 Source – GizmoChina

Although looking at the leaked GeekBench scores of the Snapdragon 855, there shouldn’t be any doubt on it’s performance. The Snapdragon 845 has an average Single-Core Score of 2300 on GeekBench and Multi-Core score of 8000. This clearly shows there will be considerable improvement in next year’s Snapdragon 800 series, with a Single-Core score of 3697 and Multi-Core score of 10469.

Qualcomm has been chasing to close the performance gap between the iPhone’s Bionic chips and their own flagship 800 series chips. Although, they have come very close but still won’t surpass Apple here. The A11 bionic on the iPhone X gets a Single-Core score of 4141 and Multi-Core score of 10438. Yes, the Snapdragon 855 does seem to be slightly ahead in Multi-Core score, it still trails behind in Single-Core performance. Then again, the Snapdragon 855 will be competing with the 2018 A12 Bionic, which will allegedly be 20% faster than the current A11 Bionic chip.

Qualcomm is shifting to a 7nm process for the Snapdragon 855, so there will definitely be efficiency improvements. The standalone processor might not be 5g compatible, but apparently smartphone makers can opt for the X50 modem separately, which will be 5g ready. Release dates for the Snapdragon 855 aren’t known yet, but they always debut in March with the Galaxy series from Samsung.
