NVIDIA Next-Gen Ampere GeForce RTX 30 Series Incl. ‘SUPER’ Graphics Cards Memory Configuration Leak?

The next generation of NVIDIA Graphics Cards based on the Ampere Architecture is expected to arrive soon. While there’s still some for the official launch, several critical details about the upcoming premium NVIDIA Ampere GeForce RTX 30 Series of Graphics Cards, including the SUPER variants, have surfaced recently. The latest leak indicates NVIDIA is going with some very high memory configurations to ensure the Big Navi or RDNA 2 based Radeon GFX Graphics Cards are easily outmatched.

With just a few weeks left for the official unveiling of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 30 ‘Ampere’ gaming graphics cards, new rumors claim the company as decided to boost the memory specifications of its entire next-generation lineup including the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and the GeForce RTX 3080. If the rumors are accurate, there is a high chance the upcoming premium NVIDIA Graphics Cards will feature high bandwidth memory in 24 GB, 20 GB, and 10 GB configurations.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 ‘Ampere’ Gaming Graphics Cards To Feature 24 GB, 20 GB, 10 GB GDDR6X Memory?

There have been persistent rumors that claimed the upcoming NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards based on the Ampere GPU architecture will be receiving a huge boost in terms of total memory capacity. The latest rumor not only claims to confirm the information but also note that there will be at least three high-end GeForce RTX graphics cards on announcement day on 1st September.

The leak claims there will be a 24 GB variant, 20 GB variant, and a 10 GB variant in the top-end category. Moreover, all these premium NVIDIA Ampere GeForce RTX 30 Series will be based on the GA102 GPU core. This could be accurate simply because they are suggested to feature a 384-bit and a 320-bit VRAM bus interface. The slightly lower tier of the GeForce RTX Ampere Graphics Cards with the GA104 GPU will come with a smaller 256-bit bus.

If the memory configurations are accurate, NVIDIA is abandoning the 16 GB VRAM category, allowing the AMD’s Radeon RX ‘Big Navi’ GPU to claim the highest-end 16 GB offering this year. Despite packing a lot more memory, previous reports have indicated that AMD is still far away from claiming the title of ‘NVIDIA Killer’ for any of its Graphics Cards.

Although uncertain, it is quite likely that the next-generation NVIDIA TITAN, which is supposedly using the full GA102 GPU, die will feature 24 GB memory. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3080, both of which would utilize a 320-bit bus interface, would feature 20 GB and 10 GB memory capacity respectively.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX ‘Ampere’ 30 Series SUPER Graphics Cards Rumored Specifications And Launch:

NVIDIA will surely follow its pattern and release an RTX 30 Series SUPER lineup in the coming year as an upgrade to the existing cards. There are no confirmed specifications, however, rumors suggest NVIDIA should offer an incremental increase in clocks, memory speeds/capacity, etc., similar to the existing cards. Moreover, the graphics cards should be moving one GPU tier up. Needless to add, these cards would surely reduce the prices of the existing cards. However, discounts or reductions won’t happen before the second half of 2021.

From the upcoming NVIDIA Ampere-based GPUs, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is believed to be the fastest one. It will feature the GA102-300-A1 GPU which will have 5248 CUDA cores or 82 SMs. Buyers can expect at least a 20 percent boost in performance over the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. It is this Graphics Card that could get 20 GB memory with faster GDDR6 pin speeds. Together, the GDDR6X VRAM could offer nearly 1 TB/s bandwidth.

The second-most interesting card is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 which will be featuring the GA102-200-KD-A1 SKU. Meant for high-end gaming, the RTX 3080 will feature the same 4352 CUDA cores as the RTX 2080 Ti. The card could also pack the same 20 GB memory but will be running at 19 Gbps across a 320-bit bus interface resulting in a bandwidth of 760 GB/s.
