How to Fix Low FPS and Performance Issues in Dead Space Remake?

The Dead Space remake has been experiencing various performance issues since its release. Developers have yet to resolve these issues, resulting in many players encountering frustratingly low framerates. Through extensive investigation, it has been discovered that insufficient Administrator permissions, outdated GPU drivers, and not utilizing an SSD for the game installation are the primary culprits behind the FPS problems.

This guide will assist you in identifying the root causes of the low FPS in the Dead Space remake and provide you with solutions to resolve these issues.

1. Run As Administrator

A common issue is that the game may not have necessary access to certain files due to a lack of administrator privileges, leading to performance problems like low FPS and stuttering.

To remedy this, set the game to run as an administrator. Locate the executable (.exe) file and adjust the settings.

Steam

1. Open Steam and go to your library.
2. Right-click on Dead Space and select Manage.
3. Choose “Browse Local Files.”

EA App

1. Launch the EA App and click on your username in the top-right corner.
2. Select Settings.
3. Head to the “Download” section.
4. Access the directory labeled as your “Install Location.”

After reaching the game directory, continue with these steps:

1. Right-click on the executable file and choose “Properties.”
2. Switch to the Compatibility tab.
3. Check the “Run this program as an administrator” option.
4. Disable Fullscreen Optimizations if currently enabled.
5. Click Apply > OK.

2. Adjust Graphics Settings

Unfortunately, the Dead Space remake suffers from poor optimization. As such, you might need to lower your graphics settings to achieve a higher framerate, even on the latest hardware. Open the game’s Settings, navigate to Display and Graphics > Video Options, and adjust these settings:

1. Resolution: Consider reducing the resolution to 1920×1080 to improve framerate while retaining image quality.
2. Light, Shadow, and Reflection Quality: Set these to Medium or Low.
3. V-Sync: Turn off this setting.
4. Frame Rate Limit: Cap the framerate to match your monitor’s refresh rate to minimize stuttering.

3. Use NVIDIA DLSS/AMD FSR Upscaling

If adjusting the graphics settings hasn’t sufficiently increased your FPS, consider using NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR Upscaling.

Both NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR are upscaling technologies that allow for running the game at a lower resolution and then artificially enhancing it to a higher resolution, significantly improving FPS without sacrificing graphic quality.

4. Launch in Exclusive Fullscreen

2. Go to your Steam Library, right-click on Dead Space, and select Properties.
3. Input -window-mode exclusive in the “Launch Options” field.
4. Start the game to apply changes.

EA App

1. Access your Library in the EA App.
2. Click on the three dots above the game’s title and select “View Properties.”
3. In “Advanced Launch Options,” type -window-mode exclusive into the text field.
4. Launch the game.

5. Update GPU Drivers

Outdated GPU drivers can also contribute to low FPS. It’s essential to maintain updated drivers to ensure optimal game performance like Dead Space.

To properly update your drivers, we recommend uninstalling your current ones first to avoid any conflicts with new driver files. You can utilize Display Driver Uninstall (DDU) for NVIDIA GPUs or AMD Cleanup Utility for AMD GPUs. Here’s how to proceed:

1. Press the Windows key to access Start.
2. Select the power icon, hold the Shift key, and click on Restart.

   

3. Go through Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings.

   

4. Choose to Restart.
5. Hit F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

   

Once in Safe Mode, run the DDU or AMD Cleanup Utility to uninstall existing drivers.

6. Move the Game to an SSD (If Applicable)

Modern games, including the Dead Space remake, significantly benefit from an SSD due to faster read/write speeds. They suffer performance issues when installed on an HDD, leading to longer load times and reduced FPS.

Move your game to an SSD to gain quicker load times and smoother gameplay. If you have an SSD available, this process can be completed within the EA App or Steam. Here’s what you need to do:

Steam

1. Click on “Steam” in the upper-left corner.
2. Select Settings.
3. Head to the Storage tab and choose “Add Drive.”

   

4. Set up a new SteamLibrary folder on your SSD.
5. Move Dead Space by clicking the Move button.

   

6. Pick the new SteamLibrary folder on your SSD and confirm the move.
7. Wait for the transfer to complete.

EA App

1. Go to your library in the EA App.
2. Click on the three dots above the game’s name and choose “View Properties.”

   

3. Access the install location via File Explorer.
4. Copy the game folder (using Copy instead of Cut is safer in case of transfer errors).
5. Paste the folder to a desired directory on your SSD.
6. Restart the EA App, return to your Library, and look for the download icon on Dead Space.
