Inbox by Gmail: Another Google App Falls

There have been quite a few services that have met their end. Be it by anonymous developers or software giants, there are always a few. What may seem like billion-dollar ideas, don’t always end quite so well. Among these companies lies Google. Although the company bears a lot of success, there have been instances where it just could not make its mark. A good example would be Google Plus.

While it was to be the “Facebook Killer”, it simply could not. It will eventually shut down in the coming days. Another product by Google is sadly in the same boat. Inbox by Gmail is reported to meet its end in the coming month as well.

Inbox by Gmail (we’re just going to call it Inbox) was introduced back in 2015. It was publically released in October. Although it was only an experimental app, it bore features which were quite appealing at the time. Things like snoozing emails, smart replies etc made it shine among other options.

Today, this doesn’t seem much of a luxury than a necessity. Anyway, coming back to the point, Google has decided to put an end to the service, marking April 2nd its last day. To confirm it, recently a couple of users on Reddit reported that they had received emails regarding the app’s closure in 15 days.

While Google was keen to link a guide on its Gmail page to help users transition to Gmail, they claimed to use the app in order to evolve Gmail itself. Adding new features, it allowed the Gmail app to be what it is today. All-in-all a successful mission, if you ask me.  Anyway, there goes another app, another platform to meet its end. It did provide a good platform for its parent app to grow. Not only that, an April update of the Gmail app would feature all the of the fallen Apps features, embedded into it. What Joy!
