Huawei New MateBook D Series Laptop Lineup Comes With Multiple Configuration Choices Incl. Windows Or Linux OS, AMD or Intel And Discreet NVIDIA Graphics

Huawei announced its latest line of MateBook laptops that feature a unique privacy-focused webcam design. The powerful, sleek and versatile portable computing devices come in multiple configurations. Interestingly, Huawei is also offering a choice between Windows and Linux operating systems. A while ago the company had apparently ditched Microsoft Windows 10 for Deepin OS completely, but the relaxation of the US-China trade war appears to have had an impact.

The latest Huawei MateBook D14 and D15 laptops are quite versatile in terms of hardware as well as software. Huawei is offering multiple configurations that allow buyers to choose either an Intel or AMD processor that can be paired with a discrete NVIDIA GPU. Interestingly, besides the hardware customization, the latest Huawei MateBook laptops could ship with either Windows 10 or a Linux OS installed on certain SKUs.

Huawei MateBook D Series Laptop Series Specifications And Features:

The latest Huawei MateBook D Series Laptop Series are primarily segregated into two: Huawei MateBook D14 and D15. However, besides the size, there are no other differences. The internal components of both the Huawei laptops can be customized significantly.

Huawei is offering a choice between Intel Core i5 – 10210U and Intel Core i7 – 20510U for the MateBook D Series Laptop Series. Intel Core i5 – 10210U features four-cores and eight-threads with a base clock of 1.60 GHz and a turbo clock speed of 4.20 GHz. Surprisingly, these CPUs consume just up to 25 watts of power. The Intel Core i7 – 20510U packs six cores and twelve threads, but provides a slower base clock speed of just 1.10 GHz with a turbo clock speed of 4.70 GHz.

Besides the Intel CPUs, the latest Huawei MateBook D Series Laptop Series can be configured with an AMD processor as well. Huawei is offering a variant that packs the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U. Both the Intel variants come with an NVIDIA discrete graphics card. Specifically, the Huawei laptops have NVIDIA GeForce MX250. The AMD variant, however, will have AMD’s own internal graphics. The AMD Ryzen 5 3500U is paired with Radeon Vega 8 graphics.

The Huawei MateBook D14 will have either 8 GB or 16 GB of DDR4 memory along with a 512 GB of PCIe SSD. The Huawei MateBook D15 will have the same memory configuration, except, it will ship with smaller SSD, but will have an additional HDD. The D15 version has a 256 GB SSD boot drive and a 1 TB HDD.

The Huawei MateBook D Series Laptop Series ship with a first-of-its-kind webcam design that ensures complete privacy and protection from eavesdropping. The webcam on these new Huawei laptops is positioned very uniquely. The webcam stays completely hidden. When needed, users can click the button above the webcam. Once clicked, the webcam swivels and pops up. Users can quickly hide the webcam by pressing it.

While the hardware configuration of the latest Huawei MateBook D Series is quite standard, it is interesting to note the company is offering Windows 10 OS as a choice. Quite recently, the company had completely ditched the Microsoft-made OS for a popular Linux distribution called Deepin. Moreover, China recently ordered all government offices to purge the computer systems of foreign hardware and software. It will be interesting to see how long can Huawei continue to offer US-origin software on its laptops.
