Huawei Mysteriously Launches Mate 60 Pro, Brings Back Kirin SoC

Huawei mysteriously just launched the Mate 60 Pro today, completely skipping the teasers and marketing – which is shocking to say the least. The phone does have some unique elements, which we’ll talk about later, but there’s one highlight – Kirin’s back!

After a wait of three long years, Huawei has brought back its own SoC’s, and they’ve chosen quite an unconventional way do so. The company opened it’s stores for users to try out the Mate 60 Pro, housing the new Kirin 9000S.

It comes with a modified Taishan V120 clocked in at 2.62GHz, three Taishan V120 cores at 2.15GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.53GHz. As for the GPU, it is an in-house developed Maleoon 910. In the AnTuTu benchmark, the processor scored almost 700,000 points.

These may seem a lot less than what we’re used to with the current-gen flagships, and that’s because the benchmark didn’t account for the GPU score (as seen down below), since it probably isn’t available in AnTuTu’s directory at the moment.

On Geekbench 5, the Kirin 9000S scored 914 on single-core, and 2896 on multi-core, which again seems underwhelming, but we’ll have to wait for accurate results, and tests to come before jumping to any conclusions.

As for the phone that houses this chipset, well, it has quite a similar, but an unconventional design at the same time. From the back, it looks like a normal Huawei device, with the concentric camera panel. On the front however, you are greeted with three separate camera cutouts – one for the camera, and the others for the FaceID.

The bezels do seem to be symmetric all around, and for the technical specifications, it features a 10-bit LTPO OLED screen at 120Hz. It has a decent 5,000mAh battery with 88W wired, and 50W wireless charging options.

The phone is also the first phone, in the world that allows for satellite calling for the general public. This feature is currently available for China only.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
