The company got massive recognition in the keyboards sector when the GMMK keyboard was released and it was one of the only keyboards that provided unique features like hot-swappable sockets while providing gaming features like Individual RGB lighting. Something similar happened soon after when Glorious released the mighty Model O mouse, which shocked the gaming community and took everyone by surprise. Today, we are going to take a look at the Glorious Model D for review which is an alternative option for the Model O.

The Glorious Model D in all its Glory!

Glorious Model D is a mouse that is quite similar to the Model O and is targeted towards users that prefer a high height. Apart from the height, most of the features of the mouse are quite similar to the Model O, whether you talk about the build quality, RGB lighting, switches, and even price. The Model O was priced $49.99 for the matte variant and $59.99 for the glossy variant and the Model D follows the same path, which concludes this fact that Model D is not an upgrade and rather an alternative to the Model O. A particular thing to note about Model D is that it has an ergonomic shape while Model O was an ambidextrous mouse. So, let’s have a look at the details of this dazzling mouse.

Unboxing

The packaging of Model D is as premium as the Model O and it feels very nice to the touch. Again, it is the same packaging as the Model O and it just feels fantastic.

The front side of the box

The box contents are as follow:

Design & Closer Look

Glorious Model D is available in both black and white colours while each variant offers either matte or glossy surface. The glossy variants are priced slightly higher, which is why if you are after value, you should consider buying the matte ones. As for the looks, the glossy one is definitely a step-up from the matte version, however, it is also prone to fingerprints and smudges more.

Overhead view of the Model D

The mouse weighs around 69 grams for the glossy variants and 68 grams for the matte variants, although this 1 gram of difference is negligible in terms of a real-world performance difference. The mouse provides famous honeycomb pattern at both the top of the mouse and the bottom, which is the secret for its low weight and high durability. There are diffused RGB LED lighting at both sides of the mouse which look fabulous and provides gaming looks. Apart from the sides, there is RGB lighting at the sides of the scroll wheel too. The lighting of the mouse can be adjusted without software control as well which makes it quite much plug and play, although you get various features with the software application.

Left side of the mouse

The side buttons are large and so is the DPI button at the top. All of the buttons are programmable and you can modify the functionality of the buttons through the application. The mouse skates of the Model D are the same as the Model O, the small G-skates, however, you get large skates with the Model D as well, which is a nice effort from the company. The cable of the mouse is the same light “Ascended Cord” which is used by the Model O and we believe that none of the Model D revisions would suffer from the cord breakage issue which was seen in the first revisions of the Model O. The Model D comes with two years of warranty, which is better than the policies implemented by most of the mainstream companies.

Shape & Grip

The shape of the Model O was very similar to the Zowie FK-series mice and that was one of the reasons for its success. Now, with the Model D, the company has designed it to be similar to the Zowie EC-series mice, which provides an ergonomic shape. To be honest, this shape is one of our favourite shapes and the hand fits perfectly on the mouse. The hump is present at the rear-centre of the mouse and the right side has a convex shape while the left side has a concave shape. Due to the concave shape, the thumb sits on the left side very nicely. The height of the mouse is considerably higher than the Model O and this is one of the biggest differences between these two models.

Right side of the mouse

Now, for the texture, you can choose the glossy variant if you are interested in aesthetics, however, if you prefer performance, the matte variant is definitely going to be less slippery and not just that, it will also be less prone to fingerprints and smudges. The main clicks are grooved so that the fingers sit there perfectly and don’t slip sideways.

A closer look of the grip style

In terms of gliding, the performance of the mouse is top of the line and the G-skates seem to be doing a great job, comparable to the aftermarket skates like Hyperglide. Moreover, the added large skates remind us of the first generation of Zowie mice which were later replaced by small feet.

Sensor Performance

Bottom incorporated with G-skates and DPI LED indicator.

Glorious Model D shares the same sensor as the Model O, the Pixart PMW-3360, that is a high-end optical sensor used by tons of esports mice these days. It provides up to 12000 DPI, nominal acceleration of 50G, and maximum tracking speed of 250 IPS.

The sensor is the least of worries these days and you won’t notice a difference between this sensor and the extreme-quality sensors by companies like RAZER and CORSAIR and even the professional gamers will have a hard time deciding the difference between the sensors. That is why you should focus on other parameters like shape, software features, aesthetics, etc.

Polling Rate & DPI

The Model D has 12000 maximum DPI, however, you can do that only through software and with the buttons, you can go as high as 3200. To be honest, even 3200 is much higher than the choice of most gamers and you would be better not increasing the DPI any further. As for the polling rate, the mouse supports a maximum report rate of 1000 Hz and you won’t have to make adjustments in the software to change it, like other companies, however, you should decrease the polling rate if you are on a laptop and want to preserve battery levels.

Mouse Clicks & Scroll Wheel

Glorious Model O uses Omron switches and these switches are one of the finest switches in the market, with a life rating of up to 20 million clicks, however, you will see some companies providing as much as 50 million clicks. The clicks are nothing different from the clicks of other mice using Omron switches, although the shape of the mouse makes them feel good.

The scroll wheel of the mouse is quite impressive; better than the scroll wheels of many gaming mice in the market, where you would suffer from noise, indistinct steps, and rattly feeling. Model D does not suffer from these things and the texture of the wheel feels grippy while the steps are very distinct. Overall, the scroll wheel of the mouse impressed us more than other features of the mouse.

Side Buttons

The side buttons of the Glorious Model D feel slightly larger than the buttons of Model O and they feel aggressively curved as well. The feel of the buttons, however, is quite the same and there is a good travel present here which feels satisfying. The location of the side buttons is slightly lower than the RGB lighting while in the Model O, the side buttons were present right next to the RGB lighting. This is due to the reason that Model D has a high height and it would be difficult to actuate the switches if they were so high.

Software Capabilities

The Glorious Model D comes with a software application that is easy to use and offers a lot of functionalities.

The software is jam-packed with different features.

All the six buttons of the mouse are fully programmable and can be programmed to do various tasks or functionalities like Multimedia tasks, etc. This can be done via the six UI buttons present at the left side of the screen. Moreover, you can create macros; the option for which is present just below these UI buttons. You can also create, edit and delete profiles if you want to use the mouse in multiple ways and this option is present at the left bottom side of the screen.

You can change the DPI settings at the right panel of the screen and the application allows to increase or decrease the DPI in steps of 100, for both the X-axis and the Y-axis. The tab below the DPI settings is the lighting tab, where you can select various lighting styles such a Glorious Mode, Wave, Breathing, etc. In the Mouse Parameters tab, you can edit the LOD of the mouse, while the rest of two tabs allow changing the polling rate and the debounce time.

Performance – Gaming & Productivity

Glorious Model D provides all the gaming features you can think of, however, let’s see how it performs in other sectors.

Productivity

For productivity, most people prefer using a heavy mouse, which is why the Model D might not be your favourite mouse that you can use in a professional environment, however, the rest of the features are very interesting. The clicks of the mouse are not very loud, the scroll wheel is close to silent, and the RGB lighting can be turned off if you want. Moreover, the high DPI setting of the mouse can get handy in editing or other applications.

So, as a whole, Model D seems to be doing a wonderful job and unless you don’t like the aesthetics of the mouse, this mouse should be more than enough for professional applications.

Gaming

Now, the gaming performance of the Model D is top of the line and it is perfect in terms of many parameters. First of all, the shape of the mouse is extremely interesting and the mouse engages the whole hand in a very nice way. The RGB lighting of the mouse will greatly enhance the looks of your rig and it is diffused efficiently, so as to not cause eye-strain. The mouse skates are as good as you can get and you can use the larger ones too if you are comfortable with those ones more. The mouse uses a flawless sensor, which is why you won’t suffer from any kind of spin-offs or other anomalies. The weight of the mouse is extremely low, making it one of the lightest ergonomic mice in the history of gaming mice.

Overall, the Model D provides a heavenly gaming experience and now you don’t have to spend more than a hundred dollars, as this mouse provides most of the high-end features at a low price.

Conclusion

The Glorious Model D is the perfect alternative to the Model O and we felt the need for the Model D greatly. With as supreme performance as the Model O, Glorious has done it once again and you won’t be disappointed in the performance of the mouse or its looks, although it is debatable that the looks of the mouse are not that professional. With the perfect sensor, easy-to-access side buttons, extremely low weight and nicely diffused RGB lighting, you are looking at the peak of performance and aesthetics. You can count on using this mouse for a lot of time, as it comes with two years of warranty and there are not going to be lots of mice that can compete against it, as its weight and other parameters are already at the limit.
