AMD CEO Lisa Su Asserts that Zen 3 is on Track for Launch Later This Year

Ryzen 3600XT, 3800XT, 3900XT launched

AMD celebrates 7/7 the first anniversary of 3rd gen Ryzen processors or Zen 2 architecture today. The 3rd gen Ryzen processors took the market by storm, and it is arguably one of the most successful series of processors from AMD. The flagship processor Ryzen 9 3950X introduced the first 16-core CPU for the consumer market. These processors also made their way into the Intel dominated laptop market with the Ryzen 4000 series.

AMD is celebrating the anniversary by releasing three new processors, namely, AMD Ryzen 3600XT, 3800XT, and 3900XT. These processors could be categorized as overclocked versions of their respective contemporaries. Moreover, these processors do not replace their older counterparts; instead, all of these processors will exist in the market. The older processors may see a price cut, but AMD has only announced the prices of the new processors.

More importantly, Lisa Su announced that she is impressed with how things are going with Zen 3 in the labs. She said, “Zen3 is looking great in the labs, on track to launch later this year”. These remarks came during the release video of the processors, as mentioned above. According to Video Cardz, it is probably the first time AMD talked about Zen 3 architecture with Ryzen processors. It could mean that AMD might release the Ryzen processors before the release of the EPYC processors. AMD may release both series simultaneously as details are still hazy at the moment. Historically speaking, AMD usually releases EPYC processors for data centers and enterprise uses before it releases the consumer-friendly Ryzen CPUs.

It should be noted that the Ryzen 4000 series codenamed ‘Vermeer’ and EPYC 7000 series codenamed ‘Milan” will feature the Zen 3 architecture. It is still not sure when the mobile variant of these processors (perhaps Ryzen 5000) will release simultaneously or afterward.
